The Weeping Willows are coming into bud and showing that Spring is coming. Hopefully we can look forward to another good year’s paddling. There are some events that have already been booked for people to enjoy. For example, maybe you could encourage neighbours or friends to Come and Try It on Saturday 26th April (details in this newsletter)?

Westel’s coaches had a planning meeting in January and agreed to experiment with the new-fangled BCU way of teaching and rating the progress of young novices. Also the courses we teach will now be to the new BCU syllabus for one and two star. Before long the Tuesday evenings will recommence with Val, Clive and the others taking improvers out for a paddle.

Bad News or Good News: Westel has a finite number of boats, and we’re not going to spend all our money on more boats. There will be times, hopefully few in number, when there are more paddlers wanting to go for a paddle than club boats. On these occasions, coaches will impose the following priorities for club boats:

Generally, long-standing members have priority, as they have shown commitment to the club; but

During courses for beginners, AND DURING TUESDAY EVENING SESSIONS, beginners will have priority, to enable them to develop a paddling habit. (Long-standing members will have priority all the rest of the week).

The coach present will interpret these priorities as need be.
